Thailand Transport

In India I saw so many instances of motorbikes being used to haul all sorts of cargo, that I couldn't understand why there was virtually no use of trailers or sidecars.

Currently my only working theory is that the crush of traffic, the sheer volume of vehicles out on the streets and the ruthlessness with which advantages are negotiated, that the need to be nimble and flexible preempts the occasional convenience of those extra features

But in Thailand, I began to see them used quite often

Very commonly to support a mobile business

And I was still seeing quite an array of human-powered vehicles

And variations on public transport vehicles

This is a songteow, which is seats and canopy mounted on a pickup truck

Here a larger version of the auto rickshaw
