April 4 Walking toward the Vietnam immigration office, I look back at Laos
My few weeks there were most enjoyable |

|
But entering Vietnam was special, given my anti-war activity over the years
|
|
|
The border is in hill country |
|
|
and the highway followed a lovely river |
|
|
past enviable home sites |
|
|
|
|
down to the lowlands as we approached the city of Vinh |
|
|
Then on to Hanoi, where I spent most of the next four weeks
I adore Hanoi--vibrant, bustling, great walking town Here, Hoan Kiem Lake |
