People I've Met
On the bus ride from Luang Prabang, through mountainous
territory the whole way, our minivan pulled over to the side of the road
for a piss stop
Kids were breaking for lunch from their school, and
wandered down the road toward us
They hung around, curious
And just up this trail these three kids were watching us
I came to photograph them, and they backed away,
laughing
Every time I tried to approach them, they ran, then
returned
Notice the girl in the pink dress and the boy in yellow
shirt
But when enough kids had gathered round, those three
joined the crowd
See her at the back, him in the middle?
Then something wonderful happened
They all started singing
See that girl clapping?
They were all singing and clapping enthusiastically
Wish I had a video of 'em
Gawd, I love photographing kids!
